Last year I took this same course and went through the cultural project which entails many of the goals wanted in a BA degree. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances I was forced to withdraw from that entire semester. It did however provide me with a project which I can choose for this assignment. The assignment required the group to choose a culture different from every member and then to find someone within that culture and due an activity that their culture might do. Thereafter we had to write a report including what our activity entails and answer other culturally relevant prompts.
The Cultural Experience Project taught me that oral communication is extremely important when working on a group project. Since the class only met once a week our communication became our responsibility and not of the class meetings. In my group there were some disagreements due to everyone’s different interpretation of what someone’s expectations of fair work meant. It was a difficult issue to overcome during the first part of the assignment but at the end it all worked out perfectly once we had talked out our concerns. Our final project came along together much more in sync, thanks to oral communications skills; which were improved because of this informative and enlightening cultural project.
