This is my rough 1/2" scale model for my first thoughts for the scenic design for the play Anon(ymous) by Naomi Iizuka. Over the summer, I will need to collaborate with my fellow designers and come up with a cohesive world in which this story takes place and I am responsible for designing what the set looks likes. This includes but is not limited to all of the structures that are on stage (how they move, when they move, any special effects that might happen) and all of the props that the actors handle. After being fully designed, this show goes into production and is going to be produced in the first few weeks of the Fall 2017 semester at San Diego State University.
Designing the set for a play is quite complicated as I need to juggle the logistical problems of budget and physical constraints while also doing my best to make sure that all of the other theatrical elements (lighting, costumes, music, etc.) all mesh well and tell a singular, cohesive story while also striving to be artful and inducing some sort of emotional reaction from the audience. Fully said and done, this project will take a lot of coordination, teamwork, problem-solving, as well as coming up with creative solutions as to how to best tell this story.
Updated pictures will follow as progress is made on the project!
